Anyone in the UK in March (24-25th), University of Rochester or know anyone attending the "Precarious Spaces: (Dis)Locating Gender interdisciplinary graduate Conference? Would love Conf book and abstracts (pdf would be great) so I could chase up promising papers. Thanks all.
Also after having read the AAWP's letter responding to PM Gillard's threatened cut back of the ATLC. I am concerned that as Postgrads this is a short-sighted and irrational economic cut, under the guise of needing cash for the disaster rebuilding, when in fact mismanagement and waste is endemic in our Defence department budgets, where not one of our Collins Class submarines have remained out of the 'repair shop' and some remain un crewed due to a lack of sub-mariners. We also have another example of shame consultation and investigation by public servants into our next strike-fighter purchase. The wasted funds are in the hundreds of thousands annually, yet the ONLY body investigating the best practice in teaching throughout the University sector is considered ripe for closure.
As PostGrads our experience with supervision, and our own teaching expertise needs such a body to continue research into both these aspects of our profession and education. Without the ATLC so many of the pedagogical advances of the recent past would never have occurred.
I will be drafting a letter on behalf of a concerned group of Swinburne CW students. Should you wish to receive and co-sign a copy, you can email cacroker@bigpond.com or vote on the GET UP (website) suggest a campaign tab to help bring this campaign to fruition. We need numbers at this stage to have a strong enough voice to be listened to in Canberrra.
