Candidates enrol as postgraduates in creative streams because they usually have a very clear idea of the story/ies they want to write. They do not always have the same enthusiasm for, or understanding of, the exegetical component. The role of supervisor, I think, is to enable them to write THEIR story, to the best standard, while they investigate in detail some aspect of the context of their writing. Building and maintaining their interest in both parts of the thesis is, I think, a critical component.
