I see my role as a supervisor to be the one who: encourages both the act of writing and artistic/intellectual risk; interrogates drafts for clarity; acts as editor when needed; keeps the bigger picture in mind (the administrative hoops). But, ideally remains very hands-off. The student’s work is not my work.
