Business / Corporate / Magazine writing?
Hi
I only joined this group yesterday and I have no idea how to write, hence the reason I joined. Hoping some kind, helpful people will nudge me in the write (pun!) direction.
I'm currently "in between jobs" as they say and I'm noticing that jobs I would like to go for ...creative jobs...are asking that not only can you design the brochures, flyers etc but you also need to write the content. Now..I don't want to lie that I can do this as I never written (well nothing of any serious nature) BUT I'm thinking if I could do a few courses and teach myself (hopefully) how to write analytically and with a business content in mind then I'd feel more willing to put this on my resume with examples to back it up in my portfolio.
If anyone out there knows of any good (free) online courses that could teach me some basic writing skills I'd be eternally grateful.
Slab of beer in it if the link I use gets me the job I'm after ;-)
Cheers

Writing for Flyers etc
I found one of the most handy things to do was a Course in marketing. As odd as this sounds it really helped my thinking in writing for a specific purpose.
eg. Think about writing to sell a drill: you can go on about how awsome the drill is and how flashy, and fabulous but at the end of the day people don't want a 'drill' they want the holes that the drill can make and while you are writing about the drill your focus should be on the holes. It probably not a very good way of explaining it but it helps shift your thinking about the purpose of writing for business.
I am not sure of any free online courses but I am sure there are many. Depending on what state your in (physically rather than mentaly lol) there may be cheap-ish adult vocational learning courses availalble.

I think that it is bery useful to practice in magazine style writing in order to become professional essay writers.
